Shadow Cliffs Regional Recreation Area

This former Kaiser Industries gravel quarry turned 266-acre park centers around an 80-acre lake that draws swimmers, anglers, and boaters year-round. The East Bay Regional Park District has managed it since 1971, offering kayak and paddleboat rentals plus picnic areas scattered around the shoreline. Free parking fills up fast on summer weekends, so early arrivals claim the shaded spots.

The lake stays refreshingly cool even when Pleasanton heats up, making it a go-to spot for families looking to beat the valley temperatures. Paved paths work for strollers, while the surrounding trails offer easy walks with water views. Dogs are welcome on-leash throughout the park.
