About Las Trampas Regional Wilderness (Danville Access)
This 5,342-acre wilderness spreads across two main ridges with 40 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The terrain ranges from moderate fire roads to challenging single track, with dramatic views across the valley and opportunities to spot fossils along the way. The East Bay Regional Park District has maintained this rugged landscape since the 1960s, keeping it refreshingly undeveloped.
Park at the Danville staging area off Camino Tassajara—it's free but fills early on weekends. Dogs stay leashed, and the trails connect around the Eugene O'Neill Historic Site for longer adventures. Early morning visits offer cooler temperatures and better wildlife viewing, while the extended hours mean you can catch sunset from Rocky Ridge if you time it right.
